Men's Fellowship Gathers for Prayer Breakfast

By Bode Akundayo

The September 2010 Men’s Prayer Breakfast started off with a praise-and-worship session and was rounded up with prayer. The exhortation which was given by the Men’s Fellowship leader, Bro. Ebenezer Nettey, centered on the importance of prayer in the lives of Christian men. Giving the account of Abraham’s intercession for Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 18, he explained the reason why God chose to tell Abraham about the impending destruction.

Although God had already given Abraham a message of mercy – about the birth of his son Isaac, He still deemed it fit to let Abraham into his plan of judgment against those two ungodly cities. Abraham had a very strong relationship with God, and this enabled him to have an opportunity to intercede for Sodom and Gomorrah before they were eventually destroyed.

Bro. Nettey also used the account of Paul and Silas’ imprisonment in the 16th chapter of Acts to point out the fact that only a solid relationship with God, through Christ, can enable men to sing through tough times. Men, as leaders of homes and families, usually encounter difficult situations, and only a continuous relationship with God can carry them through. Bro. Nettey concluded his message by encouraging the men to remain in a place of prayer.  He encouraged them to pray and intercede for their families as well as members of the church.  Prayer always achieves one goal: it brings us closer to God and ultimately strengthens our bond with Him.
