Reston, VA Fellowship Celebreates 2nd Anniversary

By Jose Shephard and the Reston Virginia Fellowship Team

Lights, camera, and the Holy Spirit—Action.  Brother Demetrius McElveen opened the worship by welcoming the audience of about 60, consisting of Reston residents and members from the Washington DC church. A musical selection provided by the DC choir was then followed by congregational singing conducted by the Music Director Brother Seye Banjo.   The Assistant Pastor, Brother Ayodele Mobolurin gave a Prayer of Appreciation.  The announcements were read by one of the workers in Reston, Brother Jose Shephard.

Brother Oludare Owolabi gave a special presentation on the history of the AFC Northern Virginia Fellowship.  In his presentation he elaborated on how Brother Solomon Olubiyi desired to hold Bible Study in Reston for the residents he normally brought to DC for church.  The Pastor, by God’s grace and the approval of the District Superintendant, suggested that Sunday worship fellowships should be added as well.  The presentation also contained the letters of assurance of prayers and support written by the General Superintendent (Reverend Darrel Lee), the then District Superintendant (Reverend, Robert Moore) and  Reverend Sam Ajayi of the headquarters church in Portland, Oregon.
Two new converts of the fellowship, Sister Sinlly Zavaleta and Brother Bobby Dyer  then  testified as to what God has been doing in their lives, how they were saved and given by God victory over sin.  Praise the Lord!  Sister Blessing Mbang and Brother Godwin Akpan rendered an inspiring duet with Brother Cyril Mbang accompanying them on the organ before the sermon.

Our pastor, Reverend Josephine McEveen, delivered a powerful and inspiring sermon regarding the work and challenges currently facing the Northern Virginia Fellowship.  In her message she encouraged members of the fellowship to continue with the good work they have been doing and be ready to face any opposition ahead.  With the support from the Washington DC church, the members of the Northern Virginia Fellowship truly felt and experienced the love God. With so many greetings amongst the attendees, time would not allow for us to fully express our joy and appreciation. The Lord truly blessed every person in attendance and left the Reston and Washington saints anticipating God’s moving in an even greater way. We do not know how, but we feel it. With steadfast prayers we know the Lord will do wonders. And, based upon a packed church in Reston on the fellowship’s Second Anniversary, we know that there are plenty more blessings to come.  We covet your prayers for this work, particularly as we pray for a location where there is no time limit forcing us to exit the facility before we have finished praying and fellowshipping.
