2010 Church Family Retreat - Sandy Cove, North East Maryland
By Ruth Oni
The 2010 Washington, DC church family retreat was held July 9-11 and brought relaxation, refreshment and restoration to all who attended. Aptly themed “Restore, Renew and Refresh”, the retreat was held at the beautiful Sandy Cove Christian Retreat Center, nestled away in the serenity of northeast Maryland, approximately ninety miles from the church. Following the success of our first church-wide retreat last year, we decided to return for another wonderful weekend of fellowship.
The three-day retreat featured family-oriented break-out seminars, inspiring movies and life-changing messages. The tranquil view of the Chesapeake Bay did a lot to bring calm to weary souls as they silently communed with their heavenly Father. Many were able to spend quality time in self-reflection, prayer, physical rest and with loved ones.
What a great opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives! There was also ample time for games and exercise. Despite the rains that came on Saturday, many joined together in indoor activities such as volleyball, basketball, table tennis, rock climbing, and pool table. The Sandy Cove Christian Retreat Center Retreat Center’s hearty buffet meals were great, the sweet fellowship was greater, but the many blessings received were the greatest!
On Saturday night, we learnt from Brother Peter McPhun about three types of faith—dead, demonic (who believe, tremble, but don’t act) and dynamic—and were exhorted to avoid the first two while exercising the third. Sunday was full of testimonies of praise and victory as brethren started exercising dynamic faith! After the morning worship on Sunday, everyone gathered for a nice photo-shoot session by the water. We were not so eager to leave the serenity of Sandy Cove and the Chesapeake Bay as we had been to come, but we smiled into the camera with hopes to be back next year.
